The Gulamarg was named as Gaurimarg, which is in honour of Hindu goddess Parvati. Who is wife of Lord Shiva &  mother of Lord Ganesh & Karthik. In 16th century, the name had been changed to Gulamarg by Sultan Yusuf Shah in 16th century. Even in 20th century. The British govt servants used to visit this place to escape the summer from North India. Even they created the 3 golf courses includung one specifically for women as they love to play golf. One of the three gof course that had been established by brithish servants still survives & popular as its world’s highest golf course at 8690 ft high from sea level. Also, the British rulers established a ski club too. However post British rule, the valley had seen blood bath due to terrorism & related stuff.
Let’s have some info about present scenario of Gulmarg. As per census 2011, there were total 77 households consists the population of 1965 individuals. The worse part of the census is only 8 females & o children aged 0-8 were the part of 1965. However, the positive & the best part was their literacy that is 99.64% in 2011 census. This is super as against of 66.67% of state literacy ratio with 100% female literacy. Though, the number of females was not the huge as mentioned only 8.
